About the Founder
Adesola Akinyemi is the Founder of The Sociology Hub and a Sociology curriculum designer with over ten years' experience teaching and leading Sociology departments. She holds the National Professional Qualification for Leading Teaching (NPQLT) and has led and developed GCSE and A-level Sociology curricula across several secondary schools, supporting departments to deliver engaging, inclusive and high-quality Sociology education.
Drawing on extensive classroom experience and curriculum expertise, Adesola creates evidence-informed resources that help teachers reduce planning time without compromising on quality. Every lesson is carefully designed with curriculum sequencing, retrieval practice, explicit vocabulary instruction, modelling, scaffolding, metacognitive strategies and assessment guidance aligned with examination requirements, enabling teachers to spend more time teaching and less time creating resources from scratch.
Adesola is particularly passionate about inclusive curriculum design and applying sociological thinking to curriculum development. She believes Sociology education should encourage students to think critically, engage with diverse perspectives and develop a deeper understanding of the social world. Her approach to curriculum design reflects these values, ensuring that students encounter a curriculum that is both academically rigorous and representative of the discipline.
She also has experience designing and delivering professional development for teachers, including CPD focused on A-level teaching and inclusive education. She is committed to supporting teachers in developing both subject knowledge and classroom practice through evidence-informed approaches.
A strong advocate of metacognition, Adesola believes that students make the greatest progress when teachers explicitly model expert thinking. Her resources therefore place a strong emphasis on making thinking visible through carefully sequenced explanations, worked examples, modelling, scaffolding and opportunities for students to develop increasingly independent analytical and evaluative skills.
Through The Sociology Hub, Adesola's mission is to support Sociology teachers through evidence-informed curriculum design, ready-to-teach resources and professional development, helping teachers reduce planning time while delivering engaging, inclusive and high-quality Sociology education.
As The Sociology Hub continues to grow, Adesola hopes to expand this support through curriculum consultancy, professional development, educational collaboration and contributions to the wider Sociology education community.
